Little Things: Paid In Full

Posted in Blog, Little Things | 8 comments

The second of our three vehicles is now paid in full….and ahead of schedule!  We now have our Honda Odyssey and our Toyota Tacoma paid in full.  We have had the van for 2 ½ years (we paid cash) and the truck for almost 2 years.  The only thing left is the motorcycle…which we’ve owned longer than any of them.  Guess what?  I’m paying that one off THIS WEEK!

Okay…this isn’t really a LITTLE thing…it is a HUGE accomplishment….but it was the little things that got us here: buying used cars, following a budget, skipping a lot of “extras” and committing to the goal of not having debt.

My husband, in particular, often struggles with “the big picture”:  “How do I work so hard and I can’t have X”   This escapes my realm of reality.  I think we are doing FANTASTIC!  Our home and student loans are our only debt.

The little things can literally add up faster than you think.  One penny at a time.

  1. That is fantastic! I need to get back on the ball. I am a big fan of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University and need to buckle down and get that plan started again. Congratulations! I know it feels awesome!

  2. Yay Congrats! Our only vehicle loan will be paid off in the next couple of months and I can.not.wait. We’ve decided to only buy cars with cash from now on…what a waste of interest money. I don’t mind buying someone else’s hand me down.

  3. Its a huge accomplishment and because of NOT having those debts you will have more freedom. This is where its hard to see the big picture and the times in our life when we’ve been held back by debt have been the most difficult days to be sure. What a great way to end the first month of this wonderful year =) Thanks for the inspiration!

  4. Wahoo! Good for you! It’s a great feeling, isn’t it?

  5. Thanks, Molly! You are so right! When we decide to make a purchase, or improve on our home, it isn’t a stressful decision because we make sure it is ALWAYS something we can afford. Debt is a burden that weighs you down much more than you realize!

  6. It IS a great feeling. Taking on a car loan again was scary…we didn’t pay it off as early as we had planned…but it is still much earlier than the term!
    Thanks!

  7. I’m with you on that one, Tiffany! So many people trade in or trade up anymore that they pay special attention to the care they give their vehicles….then someone like me can step in and run it into the ground! (just kidding)

Congrats on seeing the light at the end of your loan, too!!!

  8. Dave Ramsey is SUCH a great system to follow! We have somehow managed to do this on our own, but I struggle when I think about how to teach the kids about money management… I heard Dave has a great tool for kids…I’m planning on getting this for them.
