This giveaway is provided courtesy of Ovaltine USA. I am working with Ovaltine USA as a brand ambassador throughout the year and as such, sometimes I get lucky and they pay me. If you have ever read me before, you know this means very little…I like to run my mouth and my opinions are always, always my own.
Earlier this Spring I got a pitch from a PR person asking if I wanted to participate as a brand ambassador for Ovaltine. Yes, Ovaltine. “More Ovaltine, Please!” Yup. That’s the one.
I ignored it. I was busy and didn’t have a lot of time to respond. I’d never had Ovaltine and I don’t feed my kids “stuff like that”. Sorry, I’m not interested.
The persistent PR person sent me another email to the tune of “We didn’t hear back from you, but I wanted to share some more information.” She proceeded to tell me that the campaign is based on the release of a new recipe for Ovaltine. A natural recipe; meaning no artificial colors, no artificial preservatives…just fortified with vitamins and minerals that we need to keep us healthy and strong. Interesting. Now you’ve got my attention.
She went on to tell me that the campaign kicks off with an Awesome Wholesome Backyard Party … hosted at my house with 10 of my mom friends and in conjunction I can pick a summer camp that I love to receive a $250 donation from Ovaltine. Oh, now you’ve got me! More healthy, tasty, and throw in support of a charity I pick and I’m hooked.
I wrote back and said “Sure, I’ll do it. By the way, I see you are a sponsor at Type A Parent Conference, I’ll be there, maybe we can meet.” The response I got (after disclosing that I hadn’t ever actually HAD Ovaltine to date, etc) was “Hey, we’d love to sponsor you to the conference, interested?” Um. Yeah!
So. I got to attend my very favorite conference on the arm of Ovaltine, a brand that has been around since 1906 and is just taking its first steps into the world of social media…with my help. I was honored. In return I created, along with 3 other fabulous blogger friends of mine (Sarah from RealLifeBlog, BrandyEllen from Happily Blended and Brittany from MommyWords), some yummy, healthy breakfast smoothies made with the new Ovaltine recipe. They were amazing!
Friday morning at Type A Parent Conference we met early, made sure our recipes tasted “just right” and then… breakfast began! Being the competitive women that we are…. Sarah and I were egging on the innocent conference attendees … “THESE are the best smoothies around”, “Oh, THOSE smoothies were made 3 minutes ago…MINE are fresh”. All in good fun, of course,
mine were the best everyone seemed to enjoy them all!
Here is my recipe:
SuperJenn’s Chocolate Frozen Banana Peanut Surprise
- 1 med. frozen banana
- 1 Tbsp. Fat free French Vanilla Yogurt
- 1/2 c. 2 % milk
- 3 Tbsp. Rich Chocolate Ovaltine
- 1 oz (Roughly 39 pieces/halves) dry roasted, salted, peanuts
Always put your milk and banana in the bottom of your blender. It is easier for the blades to work through the liquid first.
This takes a little extra blending to make sure that the peanuts are all mixed in, otherwise you get a gritty consistency. It reminds me of the frozen banana pops that we used to make in the summer as a kid!
Turns out I really like it …as do my kids … and I’m a huge fan of the new recipe with no artificial colors or flavors… so I’ve signed on to help them promote this new recipe throughout the year. The good news for you? You can look forward to some great giveaways….and a great new product recipe!
Ovaltine sponsored me to Type A Conference, this means I was provided with a conference pass, my transportation and lodging during the conference. Lucky Me! I still can’t be swayed…I’ll say whatever I’m going to say
